I need help, I want to purchase a good fence for my table saw, I got
an old Craftsman cast iron, and the fence is a joke.
Please can anyone recommend a good replacement, and where would be
the best place to get one?
Thank you
William

William,
Any of the after market fences are quite good. Check out Biesmeyer, Jet, Excalibur, HTC... The only ones I've heard bad things about are the "Amazing Shop Fox" which Grizzly sells (not the same as their Shop Fox Classic which is a good fence) and Delta's Unifence. (Not exactly sure of the problem. Think some folks just don't like it because it's made by Delta.) Craftsman also makes an aftermarket fence that is nice.
Expect to pay $250 - $350. Check with Woodworker's Supply, Woodcraft, or any of the supply houses. (Amazon?)
They are quite easy to set up, usually only needing to have 3 or 4 holes drilled.

The Vega and the Grizzly classic fences are 2 fences in the $220.00 range. Both of these fences can take longer rails, about 50" for more money. Biesmier and similar fences run about $350.00 I believe. I have the Grizzly classic fence and like it. I have used the Vega fence and reccomend this fence also. Most aftermarket fences are reliable.Woodworkers Warehouse carries the Vega and you can purchase Grizzly online
A few years ago I put a biesmeyer on my contracters saw and it was a fabulous upgrade .Last winter my saw died and I was able to swing a good deal on a new unisaw with no fence and switched it over.Seemed to save me a few hundred bucks but I guess it was really an incremental purchase. Now maybe if I buy a new spare for my work truck I can get a deal on tireless one next year.
I have an old Craftsman 10" table bought at a garage sale. The fence was beat to a curve and quite useless. So was the stand. I built a new stand and went to Sears to buy a decent slider fence made specifically for retrofitting to any Craftsman table saw. It fit right, had all the pieces and adjustment was made quickly. It seems to be good enough for home and semi-pro use.
Has anyone looked at the Incra fence? Seems to me it is a well designed, accurate fence system, (only from what I have seen in magazines and flyers, I have never used one but am thinking of buying one). Any thoughts on it?
30 years - 5 fences - Unifence the best by far! The full size heavy unit not some of the new, light, small consumer versions.
