My General 220 table saw calls for me to use a screw driver every time I want change a blade or take off my guard to rip. Does anyone out there know where I can get my hands on riving knife for this machine? Is there anyone, who does or would, make a custom knife for this machine?
Many thanks ……….Jim

A true riving knife, one that stays close to the blade at any blade height setting, can't be fitted to your saw, the mechanism that moves the blade is the wrong design. Many saws that have a riving knife have a simple way to attach and remove the knife, but having a quick release for the knife isn't what defines it as a riving knife.
Your saw has a conventional splitter, which while awkward, shouldn't have to be removed to do a rip cut. A few companies make accessory splitters that are easier to remove, but I don't know if they make one to fit your saw.

Thank you very much John. I will attempt to find out just who might be able to sell or create a splitter for my General 220.
Many thanks..........Jim
I just recieved the new issue of FWW and see that Hitachi now has a 10" cabinet saw for sale. I see that the saw has a nice dust removal system BUT they really dropped the ball by not offering a rifing knife. I wonder why they did that. The European market would buy their product it is was equipped with one.
I have a 12" INCA table saw and I think the rifing knife is terrific and user friendly. Increased safety is of course it's best feature.
I have made my own splitters for several machines by drilling, cutting and filing 1/8" X 1" brass or aluminum stock. If you're using thin-kerf blades you have to file the thickness down a bit. I've made several of different heights to switch out when cutting materials of different thicknesses. I've been happy with the results
