Rockler is having a sale on their mobile base. It uses wooden blocks and I was wondering if anyone out there uses one and whether it is worth it or not. I want to use it under by 14″ Grizzly bandsaw. It is on sale for $34.99 which is a pretty good price if it will do the job. See attachment.

I have a couple of them. They work well. You don't need any fancy wood for them, I just used some ripped down 2x4's. These wooden units have more of a footprint than the specially made metal ones but not too much larger. None of them like to roll over debris. With some equipment, you want to keep the foot pedal out of the operator zone. The front of a bandsaw is great, front of a table saw, isn't. They have them on sale often.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
Thanks for the info. I may pick one up after work. For that price, and with your recommendation, I don't think I can go wrong. Didn't want to spend $100...Regards,

It looks the same as the Delta base I put under my jointer. It works fine, and I'll reuse it when I get a larger jointer, which is a plus compared to welded, non-adjustable bases. I put the pedal in the back so I don't trip over it, and store it against a wall, facing the wall, with the pedal flipped up out of the way.
Be seeing you...
Another positive response. Thanks...It looks like I'll be mobile by tomorrow. It should be a trip trying to get the bandsaw on the stand...Regards,

Buzz,
I have the Delta under my 14" BS, bought it at the WWorkers sell off last year with a 60% discount. It appear the foot might get in the way but it hasen't yet. The Rockler seems to be the same thing..
Thanks All for the info...Regards,

Buzzsaw,
Mobile bases are great. But me being the thrifty one that I am I made my own. I found some heavy duty lockable casters for about $6 at a local ACE hardware. Ripped down some scrap 2x4's and bingo, great mobile bases.

Ihave the Delta base and have been plannning on replaceing the wood with metal square stock as I find my 15" planner to heavy for the maple 2 x 2's that are installed now.

Just a comment.. The base is OK.. I have some on other tools..
I had a similar base (I forger the brand) on my 18" bandsaw...
To make a long story short.. Bandsaws ARE TOP HEAVY.. I almost tipped mine over..
So.. I made a platform with 4X4's mortised together for a wider base and then the saw was much more stable.. HOWEVER, the base sort of gets in the way of your feet but the added height I liked.
Just got a flyer from Woodcraft and their base is on sale for $50. More money but it just uses a piece of ply cut to size. Would be much quicker to get done.
I have the one you are thinking of and it does involve some milling and drilling and a lot more nuts to turn. Not a big deal but I would rather save the time.
Also if you use softwood the frame will flex if your saw is very heavy. I rebuilt mine with half-laps. I'll buy the Woodcraft in the future.

Hickory or ASH.. God made those woods for real wood workers...
Hold on Will George, I just used whatever cheapest scrap I had around. I think it was poplar. You're pushing on a tender spot to a craftsperson with that "real woodworkers" stuff. I spent three years as a chairbuilder with a high end furniture shop. All hardwoods, all pinned mortise & tenon, and a lot of bent lamination. Cherry, maple, white oak, western walnut.Maybe you weren't crackin' on me but felt I had to step up.
DANG! Just mostly about being top heavy! Geeeee LOL...
no problem, hard to tell how someone is talking on the web. can't hear the voice or see the face.thought you were taking a shot but have since read other posts from you on other topics and see you didn't mean anything.pretty freaky mouse incident, how long did that take to clean up. must have been fun taking care of that mess.
