I own an old Rockwell drill press. It needs a new chuck and quil return spring.
1)how can i tell what taper the chuck is?
2) where can I get these parts-preferably online?

It helps BIG if you know the Model Number of your machine. It you don't, look it over for raised or engraved numbers which ID certain parts. That will assist Delta Techs. in divining whatcherafter.
Good luck
William
My chuck has a female #33 Jacobs taper, which is printed on the chuck. But, as stated above, you have to start with your model number to know what is needed.
Regarding where to buy: I f I had to buy a new Jacobs chuck I could buy direct from Delta or from machinists' supply houses, like http://www.mscdirect.com, which has a full line of Jacobs chucks (and parts). This gives you the opportunity to make price comparisons before you buy.
I have no answers for ya Jim but your question is a good one. I have a Rockwell/Beaver 10" bandsaw model # 28115 and was wondering what blade length I had to buy and the largest blade width I could go.....I aquired this machine from a friend who yanked it out of his barn. It's cleaned up a bit and I need blades.Rockwell is a good machine right?
I recall reading on this forum that Rockwell Beaver was made in Canada. I've never seen a RB product, though. Rockwell bought Delta about 30 years ago, held it a while, then someone else bought it, and it went back to using the Delta name. Maybe http://www.suffolkmachinery.com could help you. Adjust your wheels so they are close together, then wrap a string around both wheels (like a blade), & measure the string for length. Measure wheel diameter. Tell Suffolk the length & diameter, & ask for their recommendation. That's about all I could tell you.
Thanks a million Jim. I will use your method of measurement for the blade. Just for your own info, Beaver Lumber company I'm sure went into cohoots with Rockwell at one time or another. They have since(within the last year or so been bought out by Home Hardware....to my knowledge anyway. Again, thanks for the info Jim.
