Hi, I’m new to this board and a fairly inexperienced woodworker. I picked up a used book called Woodworker’s Handbook by Roger W. Cliffe. The book is entry level and seems to have been written with students in mind.
In the shop power tools section there is a tool called a “Rotary Jointer Surfacer”. I have never seen one and was wondering if anyone can comment on it. I think I understand the safety reasons for not planing or jointing a board under 12″. The book claims that this machine is supposed to overcome that problem.
Sorry, the book doesn’t show the brand name. I also did a couple of searches on the internet and couldn’t find anything either. My scanner is down right now or I would have attached a picture.

Sounds like the old Rockwell tool. Seen them around over the years and they still pop up for sale here and there. Never tried one but machining short stock was supposed to be their forte. You planning on doing a lot of stuff under 12"? There's other ways of dealing with that. Somehow the world has gotten by without that tool overall. It was called the Uniplane of course.
