Relative to the “round-table” recently displayed on Fine Woodworking.com: I am interested in building a table of similar style as a base for a bronze sculpture. The bronze piece has a base of about 8 by 11 inches and weighs about 60#’s. I have two questions: 1. will this table support such a piece? and 2. could you suggest a dimensional ratio for an oval instead of a round design? Thanks MOlsen

Yes I think it will support 60 lbs. I did use corner blocks to stiffen the half joints.
As for oval dimensions, it would depend entirely upon your sculpture. Draw out a major and minor axis based on the sculpture and then draw the oval out from there. Good luck.
Thanks for the input. Mike Olsen
