I purchased an Akeda dovetail routing jig which I plan to use with my Makita router. The jig comes with a brass guide bushing which is supposed to be attached to the router base. The center opening in my Makita router baseplate is 2 3/4″ diameter and it did not come with any sort of adapter to accommodate this brass bushing. I looked on the Makita Web page but saw nothing that I recognized as an adapter. There must be someone who has experience with the Akeda jig and mounting the bushing to the router baseplate. Any suggestions?

I have a Makita 3620 and they do make an adapter plate for it that accomidates PC type template guides. Part no. 321492-3. I suspect it is universal, but you should look in the back of your instruction manual for accessories. Hope this helps. Art
I did find the part number you referenced in my Makita instruction manual. The dimensions given seem to match the Akeda guide bushing. My only question is whether or not the adapter is wide enough to fit the 2 3/4" open space in my router baseplate. {I'm assuming it does).
By the way, how do you like your Akeda jig? Any problems, tips, etc.?
I don't have the jig, just the router, and the adapter does fit. Art
Thanks Art. I ordered the Makita adapter so I should be ready to go as soon as it arrives.
There are a couple of routes you can go if you can't get an adapter for your router. You can install a new special sub-base with the 1 3/16 recessed area for the PC type guide bushings or use dovetail bits that have the proper sized bearing on the shank and a stop collar. I prefer the bits with bearings as it makes seeing the machine template a little easier, Only you will be limited to 1/4" shanks if using the bearing and stop collar method.

Unfortunately the Akeda instruction book says I should definitely not use roller bearing guides.
