I have a Milwaukee router that I’ve had problems with for some time holding a consistent bit height. Today I noticed what’s going on. When the router spins up the whole assebly is extending up to a quarter of an inch out of the body. When you stop you can push the this back in flush.
The coulet is not slipping; the bit is not slipping. The whole thing is coming out of the body by a quarter inch.
I’ve attached pictures of the coulet in the in and out posistions.
Anyone know what’s going on and how to fix it ?
THANKS

Off hand it sounds like a thrust bearing problem at the collet end of the armature shaft. If it's under warranty, contact Milwaukee. [In fact, even if it's not, they may still have an authorized repair station nearby.] With the proper tools, tooling and specifications, removing the bad one and installing a replacement shouldn't cost too much. In this case, a "DIY" repair may cause more damage than you'll ever fix.
Thanks. I had not seen this before so didn't know if it was something common or not. Very frustrating though. It chewed up a dovetail jig when the bit slipped down after I had set it.
I'll contact Millwaukee and see if it's worth fixing.
