I have run out of room in my router bit cabinet. I have some surplus Honduran pine and want to build a new cabinet to house my router bits and router accessories.
I would very much appreciate suggestions as to design.

For inspiration look at shallow wall mount bathroom (or shaving) cabinets

Either make a shallow shelving unit, or mount the bits on the inside of the doors, horizontally; easily accessible. Just my suggestion.
Not knowing how many bits or how much space you have, have you considered Norm's router table from New Yankee Workshop. Several people in the Knots Forum (including me) have built it. Lots of room for bits and accessories.

Thanks for your reply. Problem is that I have two router tables now and am fairly satisfied. I lust after some of the tables now available, but not enough to build another.
I have somwhere around 65 bits not including some cased sets. I built the open case for my router bits but quickly outgrew it. The case is on the wall next to a window and sometimes my accessories such as base plates and colletts wind up in the window sill.
What I have in mind is a wall mounted case that will hold the bits and accessories.
Heres a link to pics of my cabinet. The only things i'd do differently if i were to build it again is to build in more rows of 1/2 holes. I drilled out 100 for 1/4's and only 25 for 1/2s which was a mistake to say the least. I store my extra 1/2 bits in my NYW router table at the moment. I'd also put 2 knobs on the middle drawer instead of 1, its a bit wide for just 1 knob to function smoothly (17 inches i think).

the small drawers are invaluable for holding little stuff like screws, collets, wrenches etc. I also keep my ever growing collection of spare bearings, and allan wrenches in the drawers.

Thanks for the pics, JD. My present case is similar but without the drawers. I am looking for ideas and your reply does help in that I had not considered drawers at the bottom like that.
Very nice and functional cabinet AND another shop to send to Taunton for REAL shops!

Thanks for the compliments guys, I'm glad you like the design.
like i said, i'd just put in more 1/2 slots, maybe make 2 rows of 1/4 and 3 rows of 1/2 instead of the 4/1 combination i have now.
And yes that bottom row does get a tad dusty. Originally i was going to put a cabinet door that hinged at the top on the case but i never got around to finishing it :) To many other things to work on.

Terrific case. But I couldn't help noticing dust on the shelves, which is my concern as I build up my shop. I hate my current shelves because of the dust. Admittedly, I have lousy dust collection, but I just feel like I need to put doors on everything. I've considered plexiglas as a compromise. How do others feel? todd
