I saw that Woodline has a deal going now that is 30 router bits for something like $110. Are their bits any good, or should I save my money for something worth while? What company gives the best bit for the money? Thanks

I think Freud make one of the best router bits in the market today. They may cost a litte more, but they stand up to the test longer. Check out there web site.

I buy them almost exclusively. They have a great guaranty and they are cheap and resharpenable. I dont think you can go wrong with woodline

That set isn't a bad idea. Many WWers will buy a set like that and then replace the bits they use the most often, as they wear out, with a higher quality bit (Freud, Amana, CMT, Jesada, Whiteside).

Sorry I didn't notice your posted question earlier -- I was traveling. Among the places I went was to a seminar in Atlanta, with Sam Maloof. (We got to watch him create a table, and most of the parts for a chair.)
One of the questions that cam up was about router bits. And Sam mentioned Woodline as one of the ones he uses. Now I suppose its possible that he said that because he gets paid to, but I really doubt it. After all, this is the same guy that was offered many millions for his designs, and refused it.
I've been using them for the last five years or so. No complaints whatsoever. They resharpen quite nicely. Good bits. Good prices. Good service.
I just got the Christmas Grizzly catalog, and they have some router bit sets in there too. They are cheaper, but are they any good?
I have the Grizzly round over set, four bits 1/2" shank. I got them as a free gift , you get a choice of a free tool when you buy online. They work fine, seems like good quality. I buy whiteside , amana and freud mostly, couldn't pass up the free set though. Hanson also makes top quality router bits, can't find them locally anymore since hardware store went out of business. I would recommend buying only the bits you need, many sets have bits you may never use.

you get what you pay for, i use freud router bits and nothing else and i trim laminate with them and thats tough stuff
caulking is not a piece of trim
I went to the wood working show last weekend. I talked to Wayne the owner of Woodline. I told him I bought a crown molding bit about a year ago and didnt like it. He said. I said I tried it and didnt like the bit. It just takes to much time and Id rather buy the molding then to spend that much time making it.
Wayne said " Do you have it with you/" I said "No!" he said well bring it to the show next year and Ill replace it, refund your money or give you credit towards another bit. After all 100% guaranty is 100% guaranty".
Try that with freud, amana, white side, cmt or the rest. That sold me on them permantly.

Ron,
The reason you can't do that with a Freud, Amana, Whiteside or CMT is that none of these companies will sell a bit directly to you. We sell the bits to the retailer who then sells it to you. If you need satifsfaction like you described you must deal with the company you bought the product from. The manufacturer/distributor doesn't receive the retail price from you and therefore cannot return the retail price to you. It wouldn't be reasonable for the manufacturer to refund more money than they received. Most retailers do offer satisfaction guarantees and are happy to oblige when you want to return a product you don't like. You probably won't have to catch them at a traveling woodworking show either.

I under stand that, but my case was out of the ordinary. I bought the bits from Abbeys Tools then shortly after that they were bought by Western Tools. Western Tools refused to exchange them or refund my cash. They said it wasnt theyre problem because when i bought them they were a different tool company. Well needless to say I havent bought anything from them since. BTW I just took my 410 in to get sharpened again. I love that blade. Its a shame you guys dont make it the same way anymore quiet and almost vibration free.
