Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked before, I looked but could not find it, if it has.
I am looking to use my Router for morticing and wanted to know what type of bits you guys would reconmend. Most of my bits are cheap but I am upgrading these gradually, good quality bits are expensive (but so worth it) but I did not want to waste money on the wrong type.
Any advice gratefully recieved.

In my school we routinely use solid carbide spiral up-cut router bits for morticing- they are designed for that- the spiral ejects the chips from the mortice. They are not cheap (solid carbide) but worth it.
Now- If we don't have a spiral bit to do the job- but we have a regular two flute bit- then that is what we use- it is almost as good as the spiral.
I would also opt for 1/2" shank bit over a 1/4" shank bit for morticing- whenever possible.
Good luck

Thank you Bob,
Very much appreciated,
I will try to source the Spiral bit - if I can.
Should be easy to find- all the major router bit companies have them. Bob
