There was an earlier post that mentioned a FWW article by Mary May talking about using this kind of pad to hold a carving piece in place. My question is does it also keep it still when using a mallet with a carving gouge? Appreciate thoughts from any carvers that use this method or is there a better way to do this? The advantage of using the mat was to be able to quickly turn the piece being worked on. Thanks

Mary May has a woodcarving site with a forum similar to this one. One might get a quicker response there.
