Does anyone know of a source for replacement blades for a Stanley #271 router plane?
Thanks,

I read your post yesterday, and spent some time looking in my office. I know I've got a source somewhere for you, I just can't find it yet. I'll keep looking, and check this thread to see if anybody else can help. Just didn't want your thread to go unnoticed.

Edit: St. James Bay Tool Co. used to sell replacement parts for stanleys, and I think they still do. Also, http://www.toolsforworkingwood.com has a 'tool museum', and I think they sell older parts also. I knew I'd find it. Hope this helps.

I've heard that Lee Valley's new router plane blades will fit the Stanley models.

Good idea, QC. Thanks for the heads up!-Jazzdogg-

I make mine by modifing allen wrenches. You can custom grind different profiles and make a varity of sizes. Blkbird
Good tip! Thanks,-Jazzdogg-

ibid on the modification of allen keys. Cheap and easy.

OK, Cowtown; I'll break out the torch and get to work! After all, what have I got to lose?

no torch needed, just some judicious use of a grinder.....

Don't use too much pressure on the wheel or let it get too hot. The steel is really hard now and if it gets too hot, the temper changes. It can be rehardened, but it would work great at the current hardness.

Just bought three from Lee Valley. Haven't fitted them yet but should be fine. They said they were interchangeable w/ 71s.
Thanks, Tom. I haven't received a response to the question I sent them (yet) as to whether they have replacement blades for a #271, but I'm glad to hear they'll fit a #71.-Jazzdogg-
