Well, got the speed control that claimed to compensate torque and my experience is it works as advertised.
As opposed to the HF unit, the MLCS kept the router going at lower speeds. The router would just bog to the point of stalling with the HF but not with the new one. So have to say it seems like a worthwhile add.
As far as claims this may harm the motor, I don’t have any information regarding that. The motor did not seem to heat up and it ran fine.
There are those more knowledgeable than I regarding motor electrical theory but I’m happy with the speed control. I believe it uses pulse width modulation as feedback to keep the speed constant and that is beyond my knowledge as to how it affects a universal motor.
Does what I need it to do.
