   John

   I am going through the same process with a router table.  Norm Abrams has a good design.  I bought the plans and I am going to build it.  As far as a router lift.  I have it down to the Bench Dog or the Woodpecker.  Both models are designed for the PC 7518.

   In my opinion there are a lot of good table saws on the market.  I have owned a Delta Unisaw for over twenty years and like it very much.  It is a good, heavy, smooth running machine.  I have used an older PM 66.  That seem to be a very good piece of equipment.  I have had a Unifence and a Biesemeyer fence.  Both are good but I like the Biesemeyer better.

   I recently posted the router lift question and there were many good responses.  It is recent enough to find it by going down the list in the tool section.

   This is a great forum composed of a lot of very nice and knowledgeable people.  The members have been very helpful to me.  I have been absent from woodworking for ten years.  It is fun getting back up to speed.

   I have several shop made router tables I use all the time..What you have it the PIC's looks cool BUT.. NO wheels! Unless your are SURE the table CAN NOT! move while using it to route!I think 'locking casters' are NOT good enought.. Just my opinion...

   John, Its very likely that I will be giving classes during the winter and the router table was one of the things I was thinking about building. If you find a good set of plans let me know.

   And, the Saw Stop is certainly a smart move for the safety concious. I brought up distribution at our last stockholders meeting and it is being looked into but I havent heard anything yet. I'll let you know as soon as I get back from vacation... Going up north after some Eagle Lake trout...

   Plans for a router table are overrated.  I just remade a table about 2 months ago.  The top is really the only important part.  For mine, I used a piece of 1 1/8" particle board that I had laying around.  It's a big as I could make it for the fence that I have.

   I used the Bench Dog fence that I had from my old table--I really like the simplicity of it, and it stays put!  I did purchase the Benchdog prolift, which was expensive, but well worth the $.  This thing is a tank.  It houses the 7518 very well, and adjustments are a breeze.

   For the top, I wrapped the particle board w/ some oak I had lying around, and then glued amoe laminate to the top w/ contact cement--trimmed the edges w/ a slight champfer, and the top is made.  Make the cutout for the lift, and you're good to go.

   As for the base, 1 sheet of cab grade ply pocket screwed together, ala kitchen cab style, attach the top, the same way, put double locking casters on the bottom, and it's done.  Make it as plain or fancy as you like--set the height to something that you find comfortable, and you've got a custom table.

   I did add the benchdog switch, whioch attaches to the top of the fence, and makes things work real slick.

   I find that I use my router table setup more, and with much better results now that in the past, but I still do a lot of edgework freehand too.
