How big? Horizontal or vertical? I've got them in everything from a free standing bench with a 36-inch by 80-inch solid core door as a top, to a 1-foot by 4-foot plywood one, that goes between two saw horses.
The router options run from a small router, with a table friendly base, to a Porter Cable 7518, with an aftermarket lift. But by the time you buy a Porter Cable 7518, a lift, and a commercial fence your in the ballpark of the cost for shaper.
As a suggestion, before you invest in making a table, get a copy of, "Woodworking With the Router", by Bill Hylton, and read it at least once. I haven't read the new updated version yet, but the old one had plans for a good router table, and fence. But the real worth is in the straight forward information on how to select the router, and use it safely and effectively. It helped me a great deal in defining what I should expect from the router, and what I need in a table. I wish I had read it before I purchased my first router, and built my first table based on somebody else's plans.
I would like a vertical router table with a versital fence I have a hitachi tr-12 plunge I would like to use in it.I will check out Bill Hylton book, also has anybody use Norm Abram plans. Thanks Jigs-n- fixtures for the reply.
I made Norm's plans with a couple of changes. The plan is well done, and I got the video with it. It helped. Here is a link to the plan, and the one I made. Have fun and good luck.

If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it.
And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
Fence & table reasonable not the worst nor top notch.
Plans not a freebie, see link for more.
Router man that looks like a top notch fence,Thanks for the reply.
I have used NYW / Norm's plans to make my router table. Love it. I did make a modification.
I cut 2" out of the width (out of the middle) in order to use the Jessem fence. Time was an issue for me and it was much quicker for me to put on a high quality fence than to build the ones with the plan. Just a personal preference for me.
The table is heavy, so there is no vibration or moving when you are using it.
One of the good things about the plan is you could modify it to make it even wider and simply make a wider fence.
Enjoy,
