Question: How exact does one have to been when centering the router over the router plate cut out and screwing it to the plate?

Unless you are going to be using template guides its not super critical.
If you are using guides then it is VERY important especially if you are using it in a dovetail or similar jig.
But it is better to be able to use the sides of your plate as a reliable reference when making jigs and not have to be super careful about always using the same side against whatever jig you are using.
