All,
I’m swapping out the table top on my Norm style router cabinet. I built this about 18 months ago with a melamine and hardboard top(about 1″) and a benchdog plastic insert. My Dewalt 621 has caused the benchdog insert to bend.
The new top is 1 1/4″ thick with a formica veneer on both sides..quite heavy. I’m looking at options to support the router under the table. This is intended to be an interim solution and will be replaced when I get a heavier router with maybe a lift.
I’ve looked at Rockler (it’s metal) solution and the Rosseau (sp?)(they say it won’t bend). I’m looking for other solutions…
Do you think I could come up with a solution that does not require any plate?…just support underneath with brackets?

I don't have a specific suggestion except to get one with the router mounted between the posts so it can't sag or deflect. I've seen one that has the router mounting to a plate offset from the posts and I'd be a bit leery of that setup. The ones I like have a clamping device to hold the router.

I use a router jack and leave it where it is until I need to adjust it later and that supports the weight from beneath. They didn't have lifts years ago.

Joe,
Like you and Chief, if I had my druthers, supporting the router from the bottom as opposed hanging from the top makes a lot of sense to me...kinda like cabinet saw verses contractor saw..
The Rockler lift is made by Jessem and is identical to thier familiar red product. If you go with either the Rockler or Jessem plate, it will fit their lift, if you should decide to upgrade later.
I have a Rockler lift and have been very satisfied with it.

tms,
That is very helpful info, thanks.
I'll will be upgrading with a heavier router for the table...I really miss not having my 621 easily available for free hand work.
