I have a router table with fence and 90 deg slide. I woulld like you to suggest a way to accurately round over the end of a dowel. I have a 45 deg chamfer bit that I expect will be used.
It seems that the most control wil be provided by placing the dowel against the slide at 90 deg to the fence. This will obviously cause a climbing cut but the dowel end will be firm against the fence.
I will appreciate your advice.
BTW, thanks for your great articles in FWW #186 and 190. They are very helpful.

Hi Bob,
So do you want rounding like a broom stick end or chamfering like a pencil? At first glance, I'd have the dowel sitting in a v-block so it's well supported. Then it can spin nicely in place but still up tight against the fence. You could run the v-block against the fence of your miter gauge. Gary
Gary, I like your idea of using a V block to provide a secure foundation for the dowel. I am looking for something in between a broom end and a pencil point. I can see that it will be pretty easy to achieve my desired look with height adjustment of the chamfer bit - and keep in on the outside to avoid the climbing cut issue.
Thanks. Bob
