My 2.25 hp Bosch variable speed router (2 years old with a few hours of run time max) worked yesterday but did not today; flipped the switch on and no life. Any suggestions why this could happen?
Thanks,
Brian

I've had two Bosch routers and both of them exhibited switch problems. One of them, a palm-size Colt, was so bad I returned it: shavings would get into the switch area and prevent the router from being turned off.
I also have the 2.5hp VSR (1617EVS) and it too has developed intermittant switching problems. I've dissembled the router without finding an obvious fault, but when flicking the switch on and off rapidly, it has turned on again. testing the wires around the switch show that the problem is indeed a faulty switch.
You might try the same thing with yours. It's most annoying, as my router is about one year old and doesn't get heavy use. I've been happy with other Bosch tools but I've been extremly unhappy with my Bosch router experiences.
Thanks - I blew the motor down with low pressure air and cycled the switch a few times, and it now works again. Thanks for the tip! I have been rounding over some redwood lumber these past few days so the dust must be finer than I thought.
If the switch isn't sealed, a shot of electrical contact cleaner (Radio Shack?) will help. Squirt it in and flip the switch several times. Let it dry, plug it in and try it. Don't know about routers, but it sure works for tablesaws.
I too have had switch troubles with this router. Twice. Each time I had to dissassemble the machine, remove the switch, take the switch apart (at least it will come apart fairly easily) blow out the dust and reassemble the whole shebang.
Pain in the neck. I am otherwise very happy with the router, though.
One other note: One of the times through the procedure I managed to miswire upon reassembly, and disabled the variable speed function....
