I am looking at some routers. MODEL 1617EVSPK or would it be better to get 1618EVS 2 HP Electronic Router & 1619EVS NEW 3.25 HP Electronic Plunge Router. You can see both at http://www.internationaltool.com/routers.htm#1617pk

It seems like there is a big difference with your choices. The Bosch 1617EVSPK is one 2 hp motor with a fixed and a plunge base and goes for about $240 whereas the 1618EVS and 1619EVS are two separate machines with their own motors and together cost at least double that. The 1617 EVSPK is in my opinion a solid value; if however you plan on doing a lot of routing and can justify the cost, then the latter option is worth considering.

Bart,
Is this your first router? If so, I wouldn't recommend that a 3 1/4hp be your first one.

I have 3 1/4" routers now & one is over 40 years old & just burnt out the other 2 I think would work ok as dedicated dovetail & box joint routers. I am leaning toward either the Evspk’s in the Makita dual base set or the Bosch dual based set. I am not sure how the fine adjustment features compare though, or if there are other comparisons to consider between the 2 sets of routers.
Have you checked out the offering from Porter-Cable. I have the 2 hp plungewith speed control and electronic brake and like it. I don't care much for the P-C combo kit, too small. Only complaint I had with the 2 hp plunge is micro adjust knob is awkward when mounted in a table. Easily fixed with a home made extension.

I have had the DeWalt 625 for many years. It has done everything it was asked to do. I espacially like the "soft start" feature.FWIW ¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬PAT¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬
