Hi,
I’ve applied several coats of Deft semi-gloss lacquer to a table two and 1/2 weeks ago and now I’m ready to rub out the finish. My question is, how aggressively do I work the finish? I am planning to use #0000 steel wool and paste wax, and my goal is a semi-gloss finish. Should I use something else instead? There is moderate to low orange peel.
Thanks,

I use a lot of semi-gloss Deft, and find that orange peel is caused by spraying unthinned stuff. To get a good finish on shat you have now, I'd sand with 400 grit, followed by 000 steel wool. Mix up a "flash coat" of Deft thinned about 50% and shoot it again. That should remove all of the orange peel. I usually thin Deft about 10% except in the hot summertime when I can spray it right out of the can.
Tom,
Thanks for the tips- I'm still finding my way through this process, and can use all the help I can get. I appreciate it!

I'm courious about the source of your quote.. My understanding of Goering is about 1933 he was going thru withdrawl in a Swedish sanitirum.
That particular one came out of Bartletts. Charming, ain't it? " Shoot first and inquire afterwards, and if you make mistakes, I will protect you." Hermann Goering to the Prussian police, 1933.
It is pretty hard to eliminate all the orange peel without some abrasion after spraying. You can start at about 400 grit to cut the top of it off if need be. I like to use soft scrub cleanser for a rubbing compound to get a semi-gloss sheen. Try using just the soft scrub to start with, if that is too slow then use some sandpaper first.
Clay,
Thanks- I'll try it! I really appreciate the tip.
