I have not gotten into using any water based finishes yet. I have rubbed out shellac and lacquer finishes. DOes the water based lacquer and varnishes follow the same rules as the solvent based products as far as rubbing them out and can they be rubbed out to a high gloss finish. I like the looks of a rubbed out finish .

Rwayne,
Any coating when fully cured can be rubbed out. All the same rules apply; watch the corners and edges etc.
I must admit though, I have never rubbed out a water based coating as I don't use them often enough.
If you get the chance to experiment with it, please drop us all a line and let us know what you found out.
Thanks,
Peter Gedrys
Thanks for the reply I have a small shop attached to my garage. If I decide to try spraying I may look into the water based products. If and when I do I will let you know I did try a spray Lacquer on a small test panel. I let it sit for over a month. When I tried to sand and flaten it --it did not powder but came off in what I call corn rows. Like the finish was rolling up. It was very difficult to get a good gloss on it . I felt like I sanded most of the finish off before I was where I wanted to be. I havce a larger panel sitting that I have put Spray Lacquer on and another one where I used brushing Lacquer. I have yet to tackle them but I will just to see what I can do. Thanks again
