I would like to hear from anyone who has actually run Trex through a planer. does it dull the blades or gum things up! Not speculation, please. I want to thin out pieces to use as trim.

I have a stash of composite decking that I picked up to use as garden edging but found that it's an excellent solution for using as an interface anywhere that I have wood to ground contact or wood to potential water, wood to concrete. It's the grey stuff ,a little different than the product in you picture but I'm guessing similar. It is quite dense and heavy. I've sawn it with the table saw, bandsaw, circular saws. Run it through the jointer and the planer. Planed some down to 1/4" and it still holds its integrity. It does not gum up and cuts and planes quite well. I do not ,however ,use my best blades for cutting and on small amounts it doesn't seem to do damage to planer/ jointer knives. If I were to plane large amounts, say on my portable, I would think that I was dedicating those knives to the project and a resharpening or replacement might be necessary after the job because i do think its hard on the blades. I keep my old planer knives and sometimes I will install an old set if I think that they are still serviceable to do grungy stuff. Sometimes I will hold off doing something that might be fatal to a planer knife until I think the knives are near the end of their life anyway. Like recycled wood for example ,there is always a nail hiding there somewhere!
Thank you!
