Any lumber yard or home center will stock white pine though typically only in 3/4" and 1 1/8" or 1 1/4" thicknesses.

Actually I was kind of hoping for about one or two notches up in quality from what Lowes sells...I've built things out of "older pine" and it seems far superior. I got some good pine lumber once from near my folks in North Carolina but I don't really want to haul wood 400 Plus miles.
Thanks for your help, though.

If you go through the piles of the wide stuff you can usually find a few boards that are very tight grained and dense, the classic old pine. I've been doing this for years, just checking the racks anytime I'm near them, and have found some gorgeous wood this way. For this the big box stores are the easiest places to search they rack up the wood vertically and it is easy to search through the stack.

...actually there is a brand new Lowes and a brand new Home Depot near here...I will try both...as well as maybe a trip to Michigan..
THANKS!

Johnsons in Charlott MI has great furniture grade eastern white pine. 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4. Very nice stuff, I still have a couple hundred feet I'm waiting on the right project for.

I'll vote for Johnsons. I grew up 10 miles to the south of Charlotte, bought my first pieces of 12/4 walnut from Johnsons about 30 years ago...made a couple of turned lamps for 4-H woodworking. Blue ribboned and got best in show. :)
