Home Depot has a Ryobi plunge router, 2hp, on sale for $99. I am a hobbyist and would not be using it a lot but of course would want it to work properly. Is this a good deal, and does anyone have any experience with this router?

Can you post the model number? I think I have the same one, bought at a place that gets overstocks and liquidations. Not a bad router for the price, but it loses some steam with agressive bits. OTOH, the maple I just routed may have been a bit wetter than I thought. Good luck trying to find any accessories, HD's parent company apparently owns Ryobi and HD doesn't stock any accessories for these. I wanted to get the insert for the bushing set and, unless I can find a universal set that fits, I probably won't be using my Ryobi for this. It may be just as well since I keep the Ryobi in my tablesaw extension table.
As is typical now, the HP ratings are pretty optimistic. Kind of like car stereo amplifier specs- 1000W (JBF, or WLS,...) JBF = Just Before Fire, WLS = When Lightning Strikes.
The only number on the ad is 192070. It is soft start, electronic variable speed, 10 amps. Comes with 3 free bits. A round over and 2 straight. The ad also shows and accessory kit for $89. Looks like some bushings etc. Could this be the router that you referred to?
Yup, that's the same one. Like I said, not bad unless the bit is particularly agressive, and in that case, it's best to make multiple passes. The variable speed is nice and having the flat on the base is good for alignment. I doubt if the supplied bits are anything special and for $89, the accessory kit is, well, kinda steep for a $99 router. If the accessories would fit more brands, it would be a different story, though.
"I cut this piece four times and it's still too short."
