First, any interior finish is required to be non-toxic when cured so you can use anything from a safety point of view. Just be sure to let it fully cure.
However, film finishes are not generally a good idea for food prep items. They will easily chip. Better is to use a penetrating finish. Mineral oil is the traditional salad bowl finish or you can purchase an oil/vanish product like Behlen's Salad Bowl Finish.
