I am finishing three Maple drawers with Minwax wipe on polyurethane. Although the product is designed to be wiped on I am applying it with a foam brush in hopes of getting better coverage per coat. I am having some problems with sagging finish although so far I have dealt with it before it dried. I suppose the obvious response would be that I am applying too much finish but I assure you that I am trying to apply as small an amount as possible while still getting decent coverage. Keep in mind that, unlike a table top, all surfaces are vertical.
Should I switch to a different poly with better adhesion to vertical surfaces?
Wipe on the remaining coats?
Stick with the same product and brush and accept the fact that sagging is part of finishing a vertical surface?

I have applied my wipe on varnish finish with a foam brush but then I wipe it off. I think you can control the dilute finish brushed on even less than the full strength varnish. Wipe it off.
*Like Gretchen said, wipe it off. Sagging is caused by too heavy an application.Dave
*Dan,I agree with Gretchen and Dave. FWIW.Dano
*You're using a product that is low in solids content and high in solvents, designed to make it a wipe-able thin build. Switching to a high solids brushing product will give you the coverage you desire while eliminating the sagging.
