I have a used power tool that I would like to sell. I am not familiar with buying and selling on the internet. Anybody know of a good way to post an ad on the net? Specifically to woodworkers, in my geographical vicinity, pick-up (no ship)?

Your profile doesn't say where you are located but if there is a craigs list for your area I would start there.
You could start with an ad here.

Life is what happens to you when you're making other plans.
When your ship comes in... make sure you are not at the airport.
As Frank indicated, Craig's List <click> is a great way to go. I've bought a number of tools there, and sold a couple things also. Give good detail in the title (tool, brand, model# for instance) and if you can, put a picture or two in the ad.
Caveats: If you have a shop full of tools, might be best not to invite replying people in. I'm always cautious about anyone who's replying to ad (selling a car, for instance) and don't give them a tour of the place, in case they might be lookin' to come back later, maybe when I 'm not home.
Listen to FG.
Additionally, Craigslist has an entire anti-fraud section that you should read. I only deal with cash when selling or buying.
" In God we trust "
All others pay cash !
"Yes" to Craig's list. I've used it twice and both times were successful.
Also - I agree with the cash or bank check method. As others have
stated - you can't be too careful & don't be ashamed of being so.
When making phone or email appointments with buyers - get their
name, phone # and town that they live in "just in case I can't meet
with you as planned." Verify that info via Internet, phone book, etc.
Then call them back to confirm the appointment and that this
person IS the person you believe you're dealing with.
Simple precautions. Play it safe.

I had placed a generator for sale on Craig’s list. Received an email, in broken English, from some lady who wanted to buy it. She said she would send a check then have her people pick it up later. Smelled real fishy to me so I emailed her back telling her that cash only when she picked it up, never heard from her again. I saw that one coming from a long way off. Gotta be careful with Craigs list.
This was taken from craigslist:
"...FAKE CASHIER CHECKS & MONEY ORDERS ARE COMMON, and BANKS WILL CASH THEM AND THEN HOLD YOU RESPONSIBLE when the fake is discovered weeks later. ..."
I can print a bank check off my computer. Cash is the only way to go - Just make sure they don't rob you too:0)
Thanks for the advice and warnings.
