Has anyone tried the Sam Maloof finishes? I knew he had his own recipe but just found out it’s now sold at Rockler’s. I’m looking for a clear, preferably satin finish that I can apply to Sika Spruce (solid) and Pear veneer. I don’t want anything that will yellow over time. This will be an indoor piece with (hopefully) no hard use. I’d rather not make my own but choose something I can use off the shelf even if I have to dilute the first coat or two.
Thanks!

Maloof finish is linseed oil, tung oil and varnish. All three are yellow and get more yellow over time. If you want a non-yellow finish, you should be looking at a blond shellac or a waterborne finish.
Thanks.
I've used water based products and love their easy cleanup and no odor but they tend to be more work - more fussy - than an oil base from my experiance. Have never used shellac. Is that something a novice could apply with good results or does that require a lot of experiance?
