Is there a good source of information about Sam Maloof joinery for his chairs and rockers?
I got his book and I get some ideas but not all.
Thanks,
Eric

Issue 169 December issue of a British magazine called GOOD WOODWORKING has a 9 page article on making a Maloof style arm chair. E-mail them at [email protected]
The article mentioned a Sam Maloof video sold by none other than Taunton Press website store, that has Sam demonstrating his chair making techniques.
I also remember an article in Fine Woodworking (issue 25) from back in their black and white days about Sam and his furniture which also showed his joints and maybe how he made them.
If I recall right there is a video he made several years ago.
Eric,
I have a copy of the "Sam Maloof Woodworking Profile" video from Taunton. It was from 1989. If I remember correctly, he goes over some of the highlights of making the joinery. One thing that stands out was that he had router bits made specifically for the chair joint. I think they took into account the splay angle of the back legs. I don't know if they are commercially available. Anyway I would start with the video.

Thank you all for this information. It looks like between the video and the article I should get enough details.Eric
In case you haven't found this yet:http://store.woodline.com/v2/Download/Maloof%20Bit%20Information.pdfThey are the official maker of Maloof's custom router bits and you can buy them too!
Thanks, I knew a company manufactured them but I did not have the specifics.
These might help:
Thanks Napie, I am not very good at picturing written explanations so these diagrams are a great help
