Does anyone own one of these sanders, and if so, how do you like them?

I don't own one, but a friend does. He does a lot of scroll sawn gadgets. He resaws boards to get thinner stock for scroll sawing, and uses it to smooth out the surface. He likes it quite well. It does leave a smooth surface. If that is all your after it will work fine.
If you want to thickness sand on it, I doubt that it would work well, as there really isn't any way to control it for a consistent thickness.
I expected to see a lower priced sander for this type design, yet the price was approx. equal to the cost of a comperable width drum sander. Why would someone prefer this type of sander over a drum sander, considering the drum sander allows you to control thickness in addition to sanding the face...???
You might want to check in at some of the scrollsaw forums and ask there. It really is an item mostly used for that kind of material. It always seemed overpriced to me, but I've never used one.
