Hi Folks,
Is it OK to run a Mirka Deros sander (1″ hose) into a 4″ dust collection system? I’m planning to buy one and would rather not shell out an extra grand for the additional dust collector. I’m currently using a Rikon 1hp collector and a 20′ Rockler Dust Right 4″ Hose.
Thanks!
Steve

I run Bosch sanders hooked to the DC... works fine. I have an adapter from the 4" pipe to the size of the Rockler flexport hose with the screw-in rubber adapters. Same thing with the F-tool domino and tracksaw.
I would be careful. That's going to put a lot of stress on your dust collector. It's going to try and suck all the air that goes through a 4" pipe through a 1" pipe. If you have a cyclone it won't function correctly without proper air flow which will let more dust into the filter and clog it up adding even more stress on the collector. If you have a second outlet, leave it open. That may help.
I run all my sanders, including the Festool, using a $99 Rigid shop vac and Dust Deputy. It works great. I connect all my 1" hoses (Shaper Origin, biscuit joiner, sanders, track saw, etc) attached to it. Saves a lot of wear and tear on my dust collector (Laguna C flux).
You can buy a small canister vacuum at Harbor Freight
for $43.00. Works good for sanders and can be dedicated for that.
Not as loud as a shop vac either.
You could put a tee or wye adaptor prior to your transition to the 1 inch hose. The other branch of the tee/wye can be left open and sized (maybe 2.5 or 3 inch) to prevent starving your dust collector and still provide plenty of suction at the sander.
A small vac will serve you better. I have DC plumbed through the shop but use a vac on sanders and other small aperture, high velocity tools.
