Hey Sarge, I was doing a little research on Sunhill. I’m looking to buy a 6″ jointer and they and Grizzy have floated to the top. I like the idea the Sunhill has the wheels and the 55″ bed. Looks like the winner to me. I saw a few posts from you back in November of 02. How has the jointer has held up and what you think of it? Any problems? From what I can see in the posts you appear to be ‘da man on the Sunhill. Oh by the way, very nice shop!!!
Thanks,
Bill

Sarge is probably sleeping in for his last Saturday of vacation, LOL! Gotta bang some pots and pans!

Banging those pots and pans doesn't work as well anymore. I think I have been exposed to too many M40-A1 rifle reports to say that I have perfect hearing. ha..ha..
Did you get the e-mail from that trouble-maker Doc. Funny! I showed that one to the "First Lady" and she sent him a reply on e-mail. Ask him for details as it addressed the e-mail pic. It was simply signed, "Mrs. Sarge"....
I have a odd feeling we'll hear from him. :>)
Have a great day, Miss Jamie...

I see you got the e-mail from Mrs. Sarge. I can still go to the hardware and B&N. I'll just tell her I'm going to get the material for one of the many items she listed on her list of "to build" for her. ha..ha..
Take care, Doc...

I caught your e-mail late last nite. This vacation thing wears me out. I need to get back to my part-time job. ha..ha..
In case you haven't read the "e", the Sundhill is a sweet little 6". Great price, 55" bed as you mentioned and the components are so close to Jet, the same factory could be a strong possibly with different paint.
In fairness, the other 6"'s are also good. The deciding factors for me were the lowest price, no sales tax as shipped from WA. state and the 55" bed. Only the General at considerably more cost has a bed slightly longer. Bed lenght is important to me.
What I suggest is factor the price, truck freight, sales tax if any and customer service. What's your best deal and is the extra lenght of table improtant to you? The BridgeWood is also excellent. It has the flatess bed I mic'ed (small margin) even though the fence wasn't quite as flat.
Would I reccomend Sunhill. Yes... But I would reccomend most of the other 6'' ' s also. Again, factor bottom line prices and bed lenght. Now, what's the best deal for you? You control the cash.
If you even have an inclination of going 8", check the Griz 8". Best bang for the buck IMO. Others opinions may vary, but probably not by much on this one. ha..ha..
Good luck and if you have specific questions, ask...

Thanks Sarge. Sorry to barrage you with the email and the post. I think the bed length is an important factor. The way I look at it the more capable a machine is the better. The extra length bed makes this machine a little more capable than the ones with the ~46in beds. I've been emailing Sunhill and they want $90 to ship it here, (western MA). The said if I bought an extra set of knives they would knock some off the shipping. Trying to get them to throw in a dust hood too. I'll see what they say next week. I'll look into the bridgewood as well. I've seen them on ebay, but they are a little more expensive I think. I'll need to double check that. As with you cost is a factor here.
Thanks again for the reply. I'll let you know if I'm going to join the big blue club.
All the best
Oh and Sarge about those vacations... they are supposed to be relaxing!!!
LOL

"About those vacations, they're supposed to be relaxing".
Someone should have mentioned that to my wife years ago.
