I need to cut 1/8″ wide by 1/2″ dado in a piece of cherry. I figured I would just do it wth my table saw but have run onto a problem. my table saw combination blade does not cut a kef with parallel sides. The bottom of the kerf is narrower than the top of the kerf, which makes it pretty difficult to fit an insert into the dado. Did the last person who sharpened my saw blade screw it up or is this typical of combination blades?

After I wrote the base note I thought about it more and realized that what i was saying was impossible. There is no way the saw blade should cut a trapezoid shaped slot. Neve rthe less, i have one. When i cut the dado in the work piece I cut it and then flipped the piece and cut again since the dado was supposed to be in the middle. The slot was a little too narrow so i adjusted the fence and cut, flipped, cut again. Voila, trapeoid slot. i just went and played around again and cut anoter dado but instead of flipping the work I cut in one direction only. The result was a dado with parallel sides. Anyone have any idea why flipping the work would cause a problem? It makes no sense to me.
Guess i'll go finish my cuts now. Too bad. I was all set to use this as an excuse to go get a Forrestt Woodworker Ii blade.
parallel vs. derpenticular
Sounds like your blade is off square from the table by just a hair.
I'd still get that Forrest balde, though.
