2 pieces of a stable hardwood cut to width & depth and spaced to match the miter gauge slots on your table saw with the grain oriented radially to the width of the slots, attached to a stable platform (i.e. MDF or baltic birch ply) of a size to suit your needs. Add a front and back stop taller than the maximum depth of cut you plan to use.

To make life a little easier. Incra has 18" or 24" aluminum sliders that are adjustable and can be "tweeked" to fit your miter slot perfectly. And also come with instructions on making the sled.
Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!

I understand the concept I have 20 years of cabinet making.
I was wondering if anyone had any drawings or plans on a sled.
Look thru the mag sites and you'll probably find something you can use. After you've been woodworking for a while you'll have a collection! I have 3 in my shop that I haven't cut up for something else and here's an example of a simple sled. It's 20" X 36".
Wow that looks clean enough to eat off !!!!!
Thanks, I looked thru my photos & here's another for small parts/miters. It's about 15 X 20. And as someone has already mentioned the incra slides and UMMV work really well and are reusable.
Bostonbeaver,
You should take a ride over to the Woodcraft store in Woburn and take a look at their crosscut sled. Ask yourself how many times you'd like to lift that thing on and off the TS a day...then look at Norm's
Some suggestions:
Go to the FWW Home page and enter into the Search box: crosscut sled.
Do the same in the Advanced Search here in Knots.
Failing the above, Google crosscut sled or tablesaw sled.
That should keep you busy for the next 2 or three years! The best one I have seen as to homebrewed ones is a post by Rich14 here in Knots.

I made one recently that's a cross between this one:

boston,
whatever the size or configuration of your sled ends up being, make the runners, for the miter gage slots, out of plexi-glas. it never shrinks or swells and its easy to work with.
good luck

I made runners from 3/8" x 3/4" steel...just drill and tap holes to accept machine screws which attach the sled base to the runners. They also won't swell or shrink...or break!
I built my sled from a plan in FW several years back. I can't give you the issue no. as all my books are in storage temp. Try FW mag. issue 106 or go to the compre. index.
