My dad had some rather large pecan trees taken down and saved the logs. Anyone know of a sawmill, or portable sawmill, near Searcy, Arkansas 72143?
Conway is an hour west and Little Rock is about an hour southwest.
Thanks,

Planesaw,
Call Up woodmiser, they have a list of all the portable sawmills in your area and are glad to share that with people, it's part of their service..
Have done just that. The only one they have within 70 miles says he needs to finish the job he is on in about two weeks. After a month with no return, Dad goes back to his place (he doesn't return phone calls) and the same story except four weeks. Etc., etc. Have given up. Apparently the Woodmizer owner just isn't interested.
So, I am looking for alternatives.
Thanks for responding.

Planesaw MO Dept of Conservation has a link in their website for sawmills that you can search by county. I can't get to it right now, but there's got to be something around Table Rock /Branson area.
Planesaw, I grew up in Searcy and used to buy wood at a sawmill north of town, but the last time I was by there it was closed. Sorry. There are others around, hope you can find them. We used to have a poster on knots, 81treehouse, that lived near there, perhaps he can suggest someone.

Woody,
Talk about small world!!! I grew up there also. Left in 68. I see you live in Covington. We lived near Mandeville and worked in New Orleans from 84 to 95. Then to PA.
I would assume you are talking about Wallace Bell's sawmill at Albion. Yep, its closed. Bought some cypress and fantastic cherry there about 5 years ago on a trip to visit my parents. Paid 65 cents a bf.
Thanks for the alert on 81treehouse.

Yes, it is a small world! I finished high school in Searcy in 64, then on to college. Only been in Louisiana about 4 yr now. Yes indeed, it was Bell sawmill, and I bought many a Board feet of oak, ash, walnut, and cedar, mostly at 50 cents a bf, and still playing with a lot of it today. Sure disappointed me when I saw they had shut down. I'm sure there are other sawmills around there, I just no longer have the contacts (like you). I'll send Lane (Treehouse) a message and see if he can help. He retired up on Greer's Ferry Lake, that lucky dog! Drop me a email sometime and we can compare notes.Woody
I have a friend who bought some flooring from Clarendon. I don't remember the name of the mill, but he said that they really had a nice set-up.
I forgot to mention before that I think the Arkansas Forestry Commission also could help.
