Hey Gang,
The current issues with metalworking is funny timing
Circa late 80s, early 90s, I was doing home woodworking – admittedly not much, but doing it. Power tools were a drill press, a tablesaw, a 10″ bandsaw (one of those 3 wheelers) and eventually a 6″ jointer. I had access to, and basically knew how to use metalworking gear (a few years of doing it)
Anyway, changed jobs, lost access to the metalworking stuff, but… My drill press needed repair. Bought my first metalworking lathe, and it has been a long trip on “the dark side” – We are talking side business, full sized lathes, mills, welding gear, even a mini CNC (with a full sized VMC sort of in the works), and wood working took a far distant back seat.
Then, last December (2023) I move. Guess what? The new house needs woodworking. The metal shop isn’t even fully setup yet (heh, barely started) but I need to do some carpentry to get them setup, and some of it really needs to be finish woodworking. The woodshop is actually closer to being setup than the metal shop!
Sigh…
Next BIG project is cabinets for the garage to store tools, which will be practice for – new cabinet faces doors and drawers in the kitchen.
In the mean time, getting the VMC setup to make a line of products I have an idea for

Needs must when the Devil drives eh?
Shop furniture is a great way to make mistakes on low impact projects. I find those errors looking at me a great reminder to be more careful on the current project...
Yeah, Pretty much. One medium sized issue is getting materials here - gonna have to rent a truck
