Has any body found and tried Freud’s new box joint blade SBOX8.
Depending on cost I would like to try it on a flag and awards display case for my son.
It might be too new to be out in the pipeline.

Leo,
You may be right that it is too new for many to have tried. I was involved in the development and wrote the instructions for the set so I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks for responding so quickly.
When and where will it be available and the most important part, How much will it cost?
Leo
Leo,It's rolling out to all of our dealers right now and any of them can order it for you. The only place that I know of today that is carrying quantities is Klingspor (go to woodworkingshop.com and search for the SBOX8). Their price is ~$80.

Charles,How about the new Glue Line Rip blade? Any advice on that? I am one of those not far enough along yet to have purchased a jointer. Does it work well enough to glue up joints? Thanks!
With the LM74 Glue Line Rip the cut edge will be plenty snooth for glue-ups right off the saw. The only need for a jointer would be to straighten one edge before ripping but this can also be done effectively on the table saw.

I just bought the glue-line rip, and i couldn't be happier with it. Works great.
Charles,
Are they available in Canada yet ?

Brent,That is an excellent question that I am afraid I don't have the answer to. As soon as I find out I'll let you know.

Freud Canada will be carrying the SBOX8 but I don't think they have received a shipment to date. You can call them @ (416) 670-1025 or email to [email protected] for an update.

Thanks for the info Charles.

Talk about information from the source. Hey this may seem like a dumb questions, but why would I need this blade for a box joint instead of a quality dado set? Just curious.
Dado cutters are designed to cut across the grain and have bevel teeth on the outside saws to shear the fibers for cleaner cuts. These bevels become gaps in a box joint that are visible. You would also have to stack an extra chipper for the 3/8". The SBOX8 is engineered for cuts with the grain so there are no bevels and the cut is square. It is basically two rip blades with offset teeth so you can stack them with the teeth at full overlap for 1/4" and at minimum overlap for 3/8" and only two blades are required.

Cheez Charles, don't tell me this stuff! I can't mount more than a standard blade on my Euro MiniMax!

I have used the new SBOX8 to make several demonstration box joints. The blades performed just fine doing exactly what Freud claimed they would do. Easily converts from 1/4 to 3/8 inch sized joints and produced clean sharp cuts. I believe the blades will require a bit of careful handling when putting them on or taking them off a saw. The carbide protrudes out from the blade a bit more then normal blades and could get nicked if the blades are banged together or against another metal object. If you plan on making a bunch of box joints on the table saw, these are a good choice.
Thank you for your input!

I just ordered that set from Eagle America, the total for the blade was 79.99

Thank you for the input. I am retired and resources challenged. As much as I hate to wait, I will have to wait for a sale of some sort. I think that price is a fair price but is beyond me at the present time
