AUGUST 31st ! ! ! that's my day off !
ONE MINUTE ! ! ! That's too long !
Could you reschedule for a day I'm at work ?
Just kidding. God speed.
: )
Hey by the way if there is anything you can do to make the mill more iPad friendly that would be fun. I made this post originally on the iPad and the bellow is how it looks once I post it. The above is the way I entered it. I even went back and double spaced it and it reverted to what you see bellow. To enter consistent paragraph returns I must use my desk top or lap top. Sometimes I get a return. Don't know why and can not do it consistently. I must enter text in the source button; won"t take it otherwise.

old days once a week, just to help us remember the old days.
I remember old days every day.. I'm old and I forget what I did yesterday!
WG,

WG,
"Life is wonderful even if you are having a bad day!"
That is probably the smartest thing I have ever read on Knots.

Mel,
I know you are eager, but since the downtime is scheduled for about 5 hours AFTER your post, I think you will have to cut some more wood this evening.
Steve,
Details. Details, Details. I just came up from the shop, sweating like a pig, but with a grin of satisfaction. I had cut a large spoon out of a piece of sycamore a while back and just left it there. This afternoon I looked at it and decided to give it a go. I got out the spokeshave, a Swedish pull knife, and two carving knives, and a gouge, a long bend gouge and a front bend gouge.
The spoon has taken shape. It is a lot of fun for me because it is all done by feel. It is a challenge because the spoon is curves up then down then up and then down, and the sides go in and out in sweeping curves. So I am constantly going back and forth and up and down across the grain. That means, obviously, every cut can go wrong. But I have the thing about 70% done and it looks good to me. Obviously it is in a very primitive state at this time.
This morning I finished refinishing a Hershey Shaving Cream mug from the 40's. My wife will use it for pins. She is a quilter. Earlier this afternoon, I put the first finish coat of varnish on a shadow box that I am making for two grandsons. My son in law's grandfather (maternal) died and they cleaned out his basement. He was a mechanical engineer who also did woodwork. They gave me some clamps, a Stanley square, some gimlets and an unidentified tool that were rusty. I cleaned them all up, and made holes to attach them to the shadowbox with wire. It will have a photo of Great Grand Dad and a dozen or so of his tools. When my grandsons are old enough, their dad can use the photo and the tools to tell them a bit about their ancestor.
So today has been a fruitful and fun day in the shop. Nice to be retired and have the time to do this stuff. To do these three little projects, I put aside the making of two children's rocking chairs which are about half done for about a week. I start back on those tomorrow.
But I will have a moment of silence for the temporary shut down of Knots.
Good to hear from you Steve.
Mela
moment of silence ?????????
Not me, I'm listening to Jeff Beck - People Get Ready.
Damn Mel, yur and old phart!
Regards,
Bob,
Great to hear from you!!!!!!!!!!
You scared me there for a second. I thought you said you were going to listen to Glenn Beck.
Now Jeff Beck. That's good stuff. Did you hear What Mama Said. I got that playing in the background now. Makes wanna go downstairs and build a wild chair or table or something. Can you imagine what Jeff Beck could do with a band saw and a good reverb. EEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!
Whaddaya doin for kicks now that you are retarded? You saw the list of things above that i have going on right now. By the way, I finished the spoon a few minutes ago and carved the initials of my high school and year of graduation into it. It is for our 50th Reunion. That is going to be rough. I have seen photos of some of those people and THEY HAVE AGED. I am the only one who still looks like I used to . Well, you too.
Have fun. I haven't been here much. Just came back today for a few posts. If you stick around. I will too. Let's try to run a thread up to 7000. NOT LIKELY! A GREAT run now is around fifty. I think a very few have gotten to 100. We used to have real Chaos. Now everything is more orderly.
Have fun. Really great to see you again.
Mel
