Ron, I'm affraid you have me at a bit of a guessing game. I live in Central Michigan and never get to see his show infact they used to show In The Workshop with John Salotes every night at 6:30 pm EST but now they have replaced it with Ask This Old House so every time I get it figured out what to watch they change it on me. But I'm happy somone can watch Mr Phillips.
Sincerely; Jim Clark
Hi Ron,
To be honest, I was shocked when he did that, and he said nothing about, like tips on throwing shellac. I live near South Bend, IN. and every spring Scott comes to a local hard wood supplier there for a show, when he does come to town I'll have to ask him about that one!

Wait what did he do? Is this some new finishing method? Brushing, wiping, spraying...now just throw the can at the piece and let the finish go where it wants? Someone enlighten me please.
PBS in N.H. aired the same American Woodshop twice in two weeks. Scott completed building this huge entertainment center.Better than four feet wide. At the end of the show when he shows how he is going to refinish the piece, he brushes a little shellac on the side to show you the wood grain. Then he moves to the front, with his bach to the viewer, he holds the can of shellac with two hands and lets it fly. it splashed inside the top, sides and bottom. I'm sure some landed on the floor, on him, and onto some of what he just shellacked. Clearely a mistake, but on an educational program a huge mistake. So I guess you don't need any of those expensive brushes,!! Ron
Ron,
What? Was this on last Thursday at 12:30pm on NH PBS?
Yes, and the same time same day the previous week.(2-6-03, 2-13-03) WENH-TV. I'm quite certain every body who works wood will find this objectional. Its worse when you know they have to edit these shows. Is it snowing where you are? Were in for 24 inches. Wood working weather. Ron
Ron,
Not only are we expecting 24 inches too.(near the intersection of 128&93)...but for some reason my street seems to get more than the surrounding areas.
It's been so cold in the basement woodworking has been hard. It is supposed to warm a bit this week..
BG,
Worked in the basement all weekend down here in Dartmouth and froze my butt off. Unfortunately I'm behind on my latest project and had to get some work done.

Tom,
Shhhh!..we are trying to keep the Dartmouth area of MA. a secret..many years ago I wanted to buy property down there ..and live the life of Riley....lol
Matt,
Yeah I guess it is, Scott Phillips need to give us some tips about it, like how much shellac you need when you throw to keep most of it off the floor, what cut works best, the throwing technique he used and so on.
Actually I got a big laugh out of it, after the shock! Anyway another TV woodworker... gone astray.
I see Ron replied with more on the TV show before I got back to it, that's good, I'm still too shocked to write what he did!
Have a good one,
Paul
