I have been following the video for sharpening a scraper and I cannot get good edges. I have a good edge after using the file, then I do the lapping of the faces and edge and no longer have a burr. I then do the burnishing and have small burrs but they are not sharp. When I use the scraper I get dust.
Does the lapping of the edge after the face cause the edge created by the face lapping cause the edge to be worn down?

When you lap the edge after having done the faces you must not Wobble the scraper (that is why I use the wooden block in the video - use that on diamond stones only!)
I suspect that you are not filing enough at the beginning- that is usually where I see people mess up- when you think you have filed enough- do a little more!.
The other thing is in the burnishing- be very definite in your strokes- and use now angle- burnish it at 90 degrees to the face- the amount you will be off will probably be just right.
Don't give up- I see people struggling all the time- and then, like hitting a switch it starts to work!

Thank you for the quick reply.
I have gone back through the procedure and improved a little but still have no burr on one side the other three have burrs but are not sharp. I get piles of dust but no flakes. I have looked at the edges throuh a jewlers loop and I notice that the edge looks flat but not smooth. I will go back and re-do the faces and then work on the edges longer to make them smooth. I will keep trying . By the way I have a Sandvik474-150-080 scraper.
