OK, I’m a little lazy at times and like to be comfortable also. I just bought a DW788 scroll saw primarily for making accent pieces for furniture I’m building. I can use the saw on my bench, but I’d like to build some type of low stand so I can sit in a chair while scroll-sawing. Some of you dedicated scroll-sawers probably have something like I’m trying to describe, so help me out please. If you’ve got a picture or even plans, I’d appreciate your assistance.

Might consider getting an adjustable drafting chair. Got one at Office Depot for around $100 that lets me sit at the scroll saw on its factory stand and at the bench.

There was an article in FWW in the last year or so about a guy who outfitted his garage shop with modular tool stands on casters that he could wheel out of the way to make room for his autos. His scroll saw module was built low so he could sit and work. The feature was also a video extra on the FWW website. If I can find the issue number I'll send it along.

The article I referred to above was in last year's Tools and Shops issue of FWW (winter 2003/2004) with the headline "Roll-Away workshop" by Bill Endress.

Bill, one feature you might want to consider for a scroll saw table is the ability to tilt it toward you. Last year about this time, I was immersed in the scroll saw world, and I know I saw a couple of picture with pro's scrolling on slightly tilted tables (either that, or I had some vivid dreams). Could be that the tilt gives you improved ability to control the stock.
Scrolling is an ergonomically challenging activity. Make sure you make it as easy as possible on your upper back and neck.

Jamie,
That's why I feel like I'd be better off with a low stand so I can sit in an armless desk chair I have. My feet will then be flat on the floor and I can keep my back straight. Technically, I can use the scroll saw by securing it to my bench and either stand or use a stool. However, using a stool, there's no room for my knees so that presents a problem.
Also, I'll look into the thing about tilting the table. At first thought, it seems a little odd but then I'm not a 'scroller' -- yet. I'm not sure how much I'll get into scrolling. At this point, I have several things in mind that would be nicer with some scroll work.
Thanks for your input.

Bill as a scroller, the reason for tilting the saw is cutting down on parallaxing. Hope my spelling is correct, a comfortable high chair or standing is a must.
