I’m looking to buy a scrollsaw and am not sure which one. I want one that doesn’t break smaal blades, ease of blade change. Should I get variable speed?
Is there a comparison that I should look at?
I need blades also. I’ll be doing puzzles out of 1/4″ ply at first.
Thanks!

I have a Dremmel and I would not buy it again. Too much table bounce. It is a two speed however, I almost always use the slow speed.
Some blade changes are simple (the blades that have the pin perpendicular and through the blade on each end. The other type require you to loosen a set screw at each end - a royal pain in the neck.
I paid $100 for my saw a few years ago (I think it was a factory reconditioned unit)
I like the "twisted" blades for tricky work (you don't have to turn the work because the blade is twisted and there are teeth on all sides, but they are tough to cut straight lines with (especially if your work is bouncing all over the place :-) but you'll be able to cut a thinner line with a straight fine tooth blade.
If anyone knows how to reduce table bounce on a scroll saw, I'm happy to listen.

Mark
If you want The BEST, By yourself an excalibur. I have a 31 inch model. It is so smooth, it cuts awesome... The only two things are that the table seems undersized to me, and of course, the $1100 (CDN) Price Tag. If you can't afford that, get the Dewalt. I also have that, and it works extremely well. (It is actually made by Excalibur for Dewalt.) It has the same design as the Excalibur, a LArge table, and a 20 inch throat. If you can't afford either, and you are going to use it a lot, wait until you can afford one.
Oh, another thing; buy a foot pedal. You won't regret it.
J, Thank you for the heads up. I think the Dewalt is shaping up to be the one. The foot pedal sounds good to.
