So, my 16″ Delta scroll saw was stolen from my garage. I had been counting on using it on a project I am working on, and so I need to replace it. Should I go with another 16″ Delta, or is there something else I should check out? Someone said that the DeWalt is the way to go. Is it worth the added expense?

I'm not big into scroll sawing, but I have had the Dewalt since it first came out, and I think it is a very decent saw for the money (about $500).
If you are willing to spend more, there are other saws that are more high end -- RBI, and Excalibur come to mind.

I ask myself the same question recently and after several weeks of home-work and speaking to a number of Scroll Saw Club junkies, the answer I found on going Delta or Dremmel as No!
I take delivery on a factory re-conditioned DW 788 next week that a friend that is a DW customer service rep here in Atlanta purchased in his name. I'm getting it for under half the street price, but even if I didn't have the connection as in this case, I would have shopped the lowest price and got it new regardless.
As nikki-wood stated... there are better alternatives for the professional in the Excalibur.. etc.. but the DW is designed by Excalibur after their machine and even used to be made by them in Canada before being out-sourced to the Far East as everything else. The design is still the same but the Excalibur runs belts which are more hardy for continuous daily use.

Ok, I have ordered a reconditioned DeWalt from ToolKing. Thank you for the responses.
