I am here for information for my husband (I hang out at Cooks Talk usually). He has re-decked a farm trailer and is looking for the best sealer to use on green oak bed. He doesn’t think Thompson’s Water Sealer is going to give him the durability he needs. It doesn’t have to be pretty and someone has suggested used or burnt motor oil. Any help will be appreciated.

Boiled Linseed oil cut 40% with mineral spirits. Reapply yearly.
Dixie,
Sealer is mostly cosmetic in a work trailer, it will make the deck look better but it won't extend its lifespan.
Sealers won't prevent mechanical damage and rot occurs on the underside of the wood where the deck contacts the trailer framing and around fastenings. The best thing to preserve the life of the deck would be to store the trailer under cover in a dry shed or barn when it isn't in use. Properly stored, the deck will probably last for fifty years with no treatment at all.
It can't hurt to apply some kind of a sealer and any commercial product like the Thompson's will work better than motor oil which is messy and toxic.
