Sealing Natural Shellac to allow for use of polyurethane
I have an old dining table base that was finished decades ago with natural shellac that I am 100% sure was not dewaxed shellac. I was wondering if I could seal this with dewaxed shellac (as many coats as necessary) so I could apply a urethane finish. Or would my best bet be to just refinish with shellac as before?

Clean it, rub it down with a fine pad, and apply relaxed shellac. Then you can put another finish on top, if you wish.
