sealing outdoor furniture so it lasts

Hi, I have a garden swing that I made several years ago. I sealed it with minwax helmsmen. It only lasted a year or two. I sanded it and again put on helmsmen it again only lasted a year or two. Am I doing something wrong/ should a sealer like helmsmen last longer than a year or two?

It doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong.
Two years is the standard life for an outdoor finish.
In recent tests, Epifanes Clear Varnish held up best compared to others. You will need to apply multiples coats as well.
