I just signed up and am having trouble doing a search for a farm style table design plans. I was told it was simple and easy but nothing is coming up. Not real techy and so not sure what I’m doing wrong.
Thanks!

One thing to keep in mind, is that farm tables haven't always been called farm tables. So when you search a specific phrase like that, you're not necessarily going to find what you're looking for.
Going through the tables category under the projects & plans tab is a visual way of looking for articles.
You might want to check out this one: https://www.finewoodworking.com/1997/04/01/my-kitchen-table
I understand that but a farm style table is actually the most popular table on the market at this time. You would think a search would pull up something similar. I’m literary getting nothing that even resembles a farm style design.
I've been woodworking for decades. I've read a million magazine articles and books. This is the first time I've encountered the phrase "farm style table."
Perhaps plugging "Harvest Table" in the search bar will yield better results.
Nope. I was told there were an abundance of plans in this site. Have not seen one single design yet resembling a farm style table design.
I have to say I have also found the search system extremely frustrating.
I remember one time trying to find an article that was written by Matt Kenney, that detailed how to make a rebate plane using a bench chisel.
Search Chisel, 687 odd results.
Search Plane, 1173 results.
Search Kenney, 463 results.
Type all 3 in the search bar, 2005 results, and sorted by most relevant, the top article is on using shooting boards.
I have tried various forms of the usual 'enclosing in quotes' to search for a phrase, using + and - to try to build logical terms, and nothing seems to work.
Or try Becksvoort Dovetail Video. 3049 results.
Yes, I know you can try to narrow it down using the filters at the side, but as there is no way to enter a word there, you are left guessing which filter may best apply.
After a while I tend to give up, try to find an article that is close, and then hunt around the linked articles at the bottom.
Colin, I absolutely agree that our search needs work. Over the past couple of months it has actually gotten a lot better, but I–web guy... master of all things digital here–I still get frustrated by it from time to time. It's becoming less and less frequent though.
Insider trick (and yes, you shouldn't have to know tricks, it should just work), if I am looking for something by an a particular author, I go to there author page. Find an article by them, click on their name. Or if you're a dork like me you just know to type in https://www.finewoodworking.com/author/matt-kenney.
The other search feature that I use A LOT is the magazine index search here-https://www.finewoodworking.com/magazine-index
This search uses keywords as dictated by our production manager, Liz Healy (who is officially the best). She knows the content, and knows the right keywords. There is no algorithm involved. Liz is the algorithm. The downside is that it only includes print content from the magazine.
All that said, they are working to make search better.
Glad to hear you are working to improve the search function. The articles are great, searching for them is terribly frustrating. ...Tom
