Searching for a Record 778 Rabbet Plane
This is my first post on this forum, so I hope I’m doing this correctly.
I am in the market for a Record 778 Rabbet Plane, and wondering if any readers
might have one they would be willing to part with.
I’ve been reading this forum for a few months now and I have to say that I truly
enjoy it. A bunch of great guys and gals discussing woodworking.
Thanks to all of you,
Rick

suggest looking in Ebay, but you also might ant to consider one of the older Stanley 78 planes
jquinn,
Thanks, I've been checking Ebay, missed out on two, but haven't seen any
posted lately except one from Great Britain.
I have a Stanley 78 but I think I'd like the Record 778 better because of
threaded depth adjustment and the two fence rods.
Thanks,
Rick
Rick,
Here's a link to a page of "uniqe Record planes" - ones that aren't exact Stanley copies.

If you find a good source to buy your 778 that's different from ebay and reliable for unique Record planes, could you let me know. I'm looking for the 043 nd 044. Thanks, Ed
Ed,
Thanks for the link. I've saved it in my favorites. I will let you know
if I find a source for the two you're looking for.
Thanks,
Rick
Rick,
No gold of yours will make me part with mine. But if you're looking for a user, Anant makes a knock-off of the Record 778.
I've never held or beheld in the flesh an Anant plane of any sort, but the reports from those who bought them have been generally good. They're not Lie-Nielsens, and they can be a project--so Caveat emptor.
Alan
Alan,
Thanks for the advise. I will look into the Anant version of this plane.
I wasn't aware that they (Anant) made one.
Thanks again,
Rick
I bought mine from Garret Wade (SP?) years ago, don't know if they still carry them or even if Record still makes them. Good luck.
